ABOUT
Founded by Richard Smith BSc Hons, Archetype Central’s diverse portfolio includes projects ranging from small residential extensions to one-off new builds in locations across the country and specifically within the south east of England.
Having worked for a number of architects & architectural practices, small and large, in England and in Wales, Richard has developed a wealth of experience in design and construction in residential and commercial architecture. It is with this experience and knowledge, for more than 12 years, that has established Archetype Central. Perseverance and faith has made Archetype Central what it is today, a thriving and energetic practice.
The practice recognises that architectural projects are a very personal experience for the client and, as such, we look to forge a constructive relationship with them. A mutual understanding of the end goal underpins this relationship. Our passion and enthusiasm for architecture and the built form is expressed in our approach to design and the way in which we deftly make efficient use of light and space. No project is too small.
The practice is affiliated with The Federation of Small Businesses (FSB) . The practice also has good working relationships with trades from architects, structural engineers through to builders, main contractors and sub-contractors, saving you time with searching for recommended professionals.

Sustainability underpins the practice’s approach to design but we appreciate that more traditional methods of design and construction may be better suited to some projects. Ultimately, you are in control of the process and we will listen to you, taking on board your preferences. The services that we offer are divided into clear stages, enabling you – the client – the opportunity to pick and choose the level of service appropriate to your needs and budget.
