JFSR MOBILE APP
v2.00 Build 3
THE BEST RADIO STATION WITHIN ITS GENRE
JFSR MOBILE APP
JFSR Mobile App - The Versions
JFSR currently has 2 Mobile Apps and two versions, v1.00 and v2.00.
Version 1.00 [Build 5 2016.02.23.18.35]
Version 1 .00 was the Beta release, mainly as a proof of concept. It was built using a 3rd party Android App Builder, hence why it has (limited)advertisement within it. It was free to design and has gave us a working model to go on. It was mainly built to see if information could be displayed, using a simple format, that gives maximum impact. The most important feature of the App must be the Radio/Stream feature. This is probably the essential part of the App. JFSR Mobile v1.00 seems to have been a success and so v2.00 was put in motion. Version 1.00 is still available, mainly as a back up App, just in case future Apps have any problems.
Features:
Version 2.00 [Build 3 2016.08.16.04.00]
Version 2.00 is the brand new, fully featured, flagship built from scratch, with 100% Android code. By building it this way it becomes advert free as we now have full control over the build. It also allows us to add far more custom features, to bring the JFSR experience to it's full potential.
Features:
If you would like to see other features within the app please contact us.
Please read the section, concerning JFSR application permissions, below.
ABOUT THE APP
Is It Free?
The JFSR Mobile App is Free and always will be. This is something we think you, our listeners, need. In the process we hope you enjoy using it and hopefully gives you all the essentials you require, while enjoying the station out and about, with your mobile devices.
Google Analytics
The JFSR App uses Google Analytics. Google Analytics are used to help Search Engines index our App, which in turn gives it better ranking whenever it is searched on search engines like Google and others. It is very similar to how Webpages use Google Analytics to get their rankings high up the list. It is not used for anything else other than that, because that's how we have set it up.
Anything Sinister Going On?
This section goes hand in hand with the permissions section below. To put it bluntly we are not out to make you feel uncomfortable and certainly not out to rip out as much information as we can, for whatever reasons may cross your minds.
In a nutshell the JFSR Mobile App is simply an application to get the most out our radio station as possible. It allows for the JFSR radio stream to be played, view some offline web-pages (basic) and other web-pages that may be of interest (which are online). The App also allows you to send an email to the DJs or to the JFSR radio station. There is no malicious code involved with our App and certainly no code in the application to breach any of your personal data. Please read the section below covering the permissions required for the JFSR Mobile App. It's important you understand how the App works.
Disclaimer:
No money is created from this App, whatsoever. There is no Data Mining involved, in any form and no data of any kind is passed onto 3rd party advertisement outlets. Basically we don't want it and we don't need it.
THE MOBILE APP PERMISSIONS
JFSR Mobile App Permissions
As with all Mobile Apps users should be wary of them. There are companies out there that exploit the user to the fullest. So always be aware of the permissions you grant Apps. I shall go through the permissions needed in detail, below, so you can be reassured our App will not, in any way, impose on you or your personal data.
This may seem like a contradiction though but the application will, however, ask for a few permissions that may seem a bit 'dodgy', or looks like a violation of your privacy. It is not. The JFSR Mobile v2 App requires two 'important' permissions but you will actually be asked if you want to proceed with granting them. This only applies when using the latest Google Android 6 OS firmware, previous firmware versions have the permissions pop-up when you install the App. Therefore in order for the App to work effectively (mainly the streaming of the audio) those two permissions are required. They are purely for the features you see within the App and nothing more. Google has a weird way of allowing certain features to function, let alone their wording of said permissions. So please bare in mind the audio stream will not function fully without having these permissions granted. Our App only requires these two permissions in order to function, hence why it may seem invading when the App asks you to grant them.
The permissions required is down to the audio streaming function and the nature of how the radio player works and displays its contents. The permission in question is called READ_PHONE_STATE. This permission includes two vital sub permissions for the radio to work properly.
Permission - Allow JFSR Mobile v2 to record audio?
This permission may seem a bit intrusive but all it's doing is allowing the App to use the mobile phone's microphone. Allowing this permission allows the spectrum analyser (display effect) to beat to the music. A bit like sound-to-light, if you like. It doesn't actually record anything just uses the microphone as an input to the analyser display. Googles wording makes this sound malicious. The image on the right is what you will be shown for this permission.
Permission - Allow JFSR Mobile v2 to make and manage phone calls?
This permission seems to be frustrating and causing a bit of concern for some people. It's probably stopping them from installing the App altogether. Hopefully this explanation may ease your mind. What this permission does is allow the phone to manage any calls, that come in 'while' you are listening to the JFSR audio stream. As an example if you receive a phone call, it will cut the audio stream off automatically, so you can then proceed with your call. It will not re-start the audio stream after you have finished your call, unfortunately, you will have to re-start that manually. As a side note (from Google) It would not be ideal to have the radio playing when you are answering a call, in fact, this is not allowed by Google’s policies. Again Googles wording could've been a bit less stressful. The image on the right is what you will be shown for this permission.
Permission - Denied. When the permissions are not granted.
If the two permissions are not granted then the audio stream cannot be played and the radio player will not work, or display the analyser. You will then be presented with a screen (on the right) telling you just that. The Access Content, stated, is referring to the audio stream's radio player content.
We hope that answers some questions and comments we have had, regarding the permissions of the JFSR Mobile App. We want you to enjoy JFSR on the move without worrying if there's an issue with our App's permission strategy. If you require more information on this, please contact us.
