ABOUT THE DJ
Jay from California here
I have been a FUNK head as far back as I can remember, if you ask my mom she would tell you I have been FUNKIN' since I was in her womb lol
I grew up with music constantly playing no matter where I was at....in the home.....outside playing where there was always a radio on at all times......in the car rides.....at school where I used to bring records for the yard duty to play at recess on one of those suitcase style record players.
In my house I grew up on the sounds of Motown and various soul artists at a VERY young age and was always into my moms collection....the first record I remember hearing (at the age of 3 and yes I remember) was Ike and Tina Turner Working Together LP which had Proud Mary on it but my favourite track on it was Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter.....that were I believe gave me the passion for the FUNK genre
As my mom knew I loved this type of music she got me two 8-track for Christmas one year and they were Ohio Players and B.T. Express, I was around 5 or 6 at the time
As the years went by DISCO hit......it's all I heard for a few years and it grew on me like the FUNK did. The first album I bought with MY OWN money was the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack which I played to death
My mom used to bring home these mixtapes back then from a DJ she knew, when I heard some of the tracks and how LONG they were it blew my mind, this is when I learned of the 12 inch single, and the first 12 inch single I bought was Good Times by Chic
Since then my passion has never stopped it just got bigger as I got older
Got into the early elelctro, early Freestyle, and early hip-hop continuously adding to the collection and even started doing gigs as a teen and through the entire 80's
It's a great pleasure to present my own show here on JFSR which I call Bringin' Back The JAMS
I have NEVER considered myself a DJ and still DON'T.....I am just a mere tool for the music to be played for those who share the same passion for FUNK SOUL DISCO ELECTRO BOOGIE and anything having to do with the 70's and 80's
DeJaVu is NOT a name really.....it's just the feeling I am trying to accomplish by playing sometimes forgotten tracks that give people the DeJaVu feeling and take them back to that special moment of time when all the great music was played
