ABOUT THE DJ
Pat has a love of all MOBO genres but this wasn't always the case...
Having been fortunate (?) to have been born in 1960, Pat can remember listening to early Beatles and Motown songs. This is somewhat miraculous as he usually can't remember what he did five minutes ago.
Pat cites the seventies as his favourite musical decade "as it had everything". Initially a fan of glam rock and then Queen, Pat was eventually seduced by the sound of Radio Luxembourg which he listened to on his sister's transistor radio. This was not the only thing he acquired from sis as during this period he also helped himself to her copy of Freda Payne's "Band of Gold" on the original Invictus pressing. To accomplish this nefarious deed he packed her off to boarding school*.
During the seventies and eighties Pat's key influences were the Luxy imports show, "Eggy Molen" a local South Lincolnshire Northern Soul DJ, and Steve Allen on (what was) Hereward Radio in Peterborough. Steve would play the best contemporary dance tracks and also feature a section called "Jazzy Rhythms". This had a deep effect on Pat. As the seventies ended Pat found himself broadcasting on college radio in North Wales where he would emulate Mr Allen, and champion British Jazz-Funk and the likes of LOTW and Incognito etcetera.
In the mid-eighties Pat stopped DJing, save for a few mobile gigs, and effectively dropped out of the "scene". Marriage, work and sport meant that his mind was firmly on other stuff for a good thirty years until approached a few years ago by a fledgling community radio station inititally to provide sports updates, before going on to present very much the show you can hear now on JFSR. Having got into jazz "the wrong way round" by first liking jazz-funk and working backwards, Pat has formed a huge love of contemporary jazz and the likes of GoGo Penguin, Phronesis and Daniel Karlsson. He is still gutted he never discovered e.s.t. until after the untimely passing of Esbjorn Svensson. His musical journey recently went full circle when his friend and fellow Bostonian, Carl Hudson, guested with Incognito - whose debut album he bought all those years ago!
On Infusions you can expect to hear new album tracks from across the jazz spectrum but with a heavy fusion influence (hence the show title!) along with classic offerings from the artists such as Lonnie Liston Smith, Donald Byrd and George Duke. Plus there'll the best of jazz from all "corners" of the globe. If there is anything you would like to hear, or if you just want to say 'hi', then why not get in touch with Pat using one of the methods at the top of this page.
