Hi, I’m a complete music nut and DJ as Robbie Collins. One night in a nightclub in Torquay on holiday with the lads and one record changed my life back in 1974. Up until then I had been into rock and pop until the DJ in the nightclub played a new record that was destined for big things, it was Rock You Baby by George McCrae and that was it, my journey into the land of soul, funk, jazz and disco began. Fast forward a few years and I got my first big break securing a residency at the Global Village, Charing Cross, a bit of an iconic club where I actually played the last record there before they closed and it became Heaven.

This lead to breaks elsewhere and I never looked back playing at clubs all across the South East and wherever possible indulging my passion for dance music. Being a DJ is great, it allows you to entertain, you know there is no bigger buzz than having a heaving dance-floor in front of you, plus you get paid so can buy stack loads of new tunes to feed your passion. I have spent a considerable amount of my life searching out great tunes and after all these years you can still find me hunting that rarity in second hand shops.

And that all leads me to now, a bit older and a bit wiser, with a damned big record collection and the need to share it with anyone who will listen. You can find me at various soul events around the South East and at parties I do with my mobile disco which is lovingly called “Disco Inferno” and now I have been given the chance to share it with you, here on JFSR.

So, join me for the ride, it’s going to be interesting and because that’s where it all started my show is named after my big break, “The Global Village”.
