Therapies
The word ‘holistic’ simply means analysing a system as a whole. In terms of ‘holistic therapies’ this means taking into account physical, mental and social conditions in order to treat a client. In short, holistic therapies treat the mind, body and spirit as a whole, rather than as individual components.
Holistic therapies aid relaxation and enable the body and mind to rest and rebalance, leaving them better able to deal with life’s stresses and strains. Regular treatment sessions help to keep stress and anxiety levels under control and help keep the mind, body and spirit happy and healthy.
Holistic therapies can help with endless physical and mental health conditions; here are just some of the ways in which these therapies help the mind and body to heal and rebalance, they:
• Enable deep relaxation of the body and mind
• Ease muscle tension
• Allow the body and mind to rest
• Improve circulation and lymphatic flow
• Encourage deeper, relaxed breathing
• Promote better sleep patterns
• Lift moods
• Induce a sense of calm
• Help the body and mind to cope better with stress and anxiety
• Stimulate & strengthen bodily systems, such as the immune & digestive systems
• Improve skin tone
Holistic therapy treatments - What to expect
In your first treatment session I will carry out a consultation to gain information on all aspects of your lifestyle. This information is confidential and the consultation will take approximately 15 minutes, hence 60 minutes is needed for the first session.
The therapies I offer are all carried out on fully-clothed clients. Comfortable clothing (and minimal jewellery) should be worn and shoes will need to be removed for the duration of the treatment.
It is entirely up to you how many treatments you have and how often you have them; some clients will have a treatment every now and then whereas others will book in for regular fortnightly sessions.
Holistic therapies are suitable for everybody and whilst they are very safe, harmless treatments there are certain understandable circumstances in which receiving a holistic therapy may not be appropriate; for example an Indian head massage shouldn’t be carried out if you have recently suffered a head or neck injury. Therapists will err on the side of caution if a client has any serious health concerns and in this situation the client will be asked to seek the advice of their GP before being treated.
Holistic therapies are not intended to replace conventional medical treatments, but to play a complementary role by encouraging the body and mind to heal itself and by assisting in reducing levels of stress and anxiety. Holistic therapies cannot ‘cure’ illnesses and a holistic therapist cannot diagnose an illness or prescribe a treatment. All personal information given by a client will be treated with confidence and records are kept in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998
