WATER-SPORTS
The Jurassic coast is an ideal stretch of ocean catering for a range of water-sports, including windsurfing, kite surfing, kayaking and surfing.
Dorset is home to the largest population of surfers in Great Britain. South Dorset’s coastline is largely composed of natural reef, so even though a lot of groundswell doesn’t push through, the waves here can be surprisingly well-formed.
Abbotsbury is equidistance between two good surfing and windsurfing beaches – West Bay East and West Bay West in Bridport, plus Overcombe in Weymouth Bay. Both are regularly used by water-sports enthusiasts, and we’re situated a perfect distance between the two.
Weymouth & Portland Kite Surfing Club is also one of the oldest clubs in the country, and they’re based a few minutes away in nearby Portland.
